Why Didn't They Steal It?
Dr Socks has the early lead in post-election conspiracy speculation. I too believe that there were deliberations about winning by any means necessary, though I don't think of it as a conspiracy as much as business as usual. Our recent electoral history is ripe with illegal and unethical practices. I think the Rethugs did, in fact, attempt to win seats by cheating in some places. Consider the Maryland elections. Or Florida.
Their failure to hold onto the Senate or the House may have had more to do with hubris than an evil plan to ultimately steal the presidential election in '08. They likely thought that their appeals to racism or threats of terror would be enough to keep the moderates in their column or at least at home. Not that they aren't devising ways to bump the next election as hard as necessary.
By the way, my tin foil hat size is 7 3/4.
