Roy at alicublog pops the balloon of some smug conservative's delusion:
Man, if I had a dime for every ill-mannered little shit who believed that the cold stares provoked by his bigoted drivel were proof of his incorruptibility and his hearers' intolerance... well, I might have enough money to be one of those little shits myself.
I think he has it right. That is the main problem with the dominant form of conservatism today, at least in the US. It mistakes garden variety bigotry and closemindedness as virtues. Partly it is a function of the god delusion, believing that the price of speaking the truth of America's (that is, white Christian America's) greatness is scorn. You know, the prophet is always shuned blah blah blah.
There might be some real ideas in conservative ideology but most of what we see today is just assholery dressed up for a night on the town.
